The company excels in recreating classic analog synthesizer sounds, often drawing inspiration from iconic brands like Moog. Behringer has recently released the highly anticipated Model 15, a semi-modular synthesizer inspired by the classic Moog Modular circurty.

The Behringer Model 15 is a powerful, compact analog synthesizer. With dual voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), this synth is capable of producing rich, fat bass lines and vibrant lead sounds, making it a versatile tool for any genre. The MODEL 15’s semi-modular design is ideal for both immediate use and further expansion, featuring 48 patch points that allow seamless integration with other modules in your collection.

Taking some reference from their classic System 55, the Model 15 brings the essence of that legendary system into a more portable and desktop friendly format. The synth boasts a pure analog signal path, with each oscillator offering four distinct waveforms, pulse width modulation, and a sub-oscillator for added depth and complexity. Additionally, the Model 15 includes a 256-step arpeggiator with three memory slots and multiple playback modes, providing extensive creative options for live performances and studio production.

At $299, the Behringer MODEL 15 is a fantastic deal for anyone looking to dive into analog synthesis or expand their current setup without breaking the bank.

Inspiration behind Model 15

The Behringer Model 15 and System 55 take inspiration from legendary Moog modular synthesizers.

Dr. Robert Moog revolutionized electronic music in the 1960s by collaborating with over 100 composers to create the concept of the modern synthesizer. Moving beyond the cumbersome “classical studio” setup, Moog developed standardized sound modules, leading to the first Moog Synthesizers, including the iconic Synthesizer IIIc and the portable IIIp. These instruments, meticulously handcrafted in Trumansburg, NY, became essential tools for groundbreaking albums like Switched On Bach and Snowflakes Are Dancing.

Moog Synthesizer IIIp

The Moog Synthesizer IIIp, originally released in the late 1960s, has been meticulously reissued using the original documentation, art, and circuit board files. Each unit is handcrafted with thirty-seven hand-stuffed, hand-soldered modules, including ten 901-Series audio oscillators, the 984 Matrix Mixer, and the 905 Spring Reverb. These modules are securely mounted into three solid wood, tolex-wrapped cabinets, all built at the Moog Factory in Asheville, NC.
